| The New Forest and the south coast offer
activity, entertainment, peace and tranquility for all. Visitors
can stay in local guest houses, hotels and camp sites,
and enjoy walking and riding (ponies or bikes!) in the
Forest, while the Solent offers sailing, sitting for
viewing and access via ferry across the Solent to the
Isle of Wight from either Southampton or via Wightlink from the picturesque town of Lymington, 4
miles from Hordle. Hordle is 2 miles north off the A337, midway between New Milton and Lymington and is well signposted. The church and school buildings are adjacent to each other, near to the junction of Everton Road with Hordle Lane and Woodcock Lane. Village shops include a General Store and Newsagents, Take-Away, Hair-dressers, Pet supplies, Pharmacy, Post Office and Garage. New Milton and Lymington towns are 4 miles from Hordle, New Milton to the west and Lymington to the east. Both offer a wide range of shopping facilities including major supermarkets. A street market is held in Lymington on Saturdays, and New Milton on Wednesdays. Each town has a railway station, New Milton having a direct service to Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth to the west, and Southampton and London Waterloo to the east. Wilts & Dorset offers a bus service from Hordle to neighbouring towns. Beaulieu is home of the National Motor Museum, with plenty of interest and entertainment for all ages. Nearby at Exbury are the famous Exbury Gardens. Railway: New Milton station for direct service to London Waterloo, Southampton, Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth. Local Authority: Hordle comes under the authority of the New Forest District Council. |
